The head of Dub Studio is renowned vinyl mastering engineer, Henry Bainbridge. He has spent the last 20 years cutting dubplates and lacquers for some of hottest names in the UK music scene and beyond.
Henry opened the studio in 2003, at a time when the digital revolution meant vinyl was quickly giving way to exciting new formats and platforms. His aim was to show that vinyl could always find a place in music, because it would always have a firm place in the hearts of those that buy, collect and play it. Time would prove him right.
Aside from cutting records for a living, Henry is a passionate advocate for the use of vinyl in the music industry, often giving demonstrations at universities and colleges, working alongside tutors to include vinyl in their syllabus, and helping students to see how it can be a part of their future careers. He often plays vinyl at music events as a way to connect with people through music and remind them of the enduring legacy of dub plates in sound system culture.
Henry is always on hand to give advice and guidance to clients about working with vinyl, from budding producers to established label owners alike. He also organises vinyl workshops and even takes the lathe on the road to give demonstrations of how vinyl is made. Through his tireless efforts, Henry can be credited with putting vinyl dub plates and lathe-cut short runs at the heart of the music industry, as a way of bridging the gap between digital releases and full pressing runs, and in doing so he has helped to bring vinyl back from the brink of obscurity, and into the mainstream once again.
